Why Education and why Sindh?
Education is a universal right and our responsibility is to safeguard the rights of our children. Out of Pakistan's population that exists of approximately 191.71 million (world bank indicators), a third of the Pakistani population lives below the poverty line. Pakistan ranks second with the most-out-of-school children in the world with five million children un-enrolled in schools. From the four provinces in Pakistan, Sindh rates the lowest for the percentage of students completing primary school at about 43%.
This becomes a challenge for authorities to safeguard the educational rights of children. Only 50% of students aged 5-15 in rural Sindh are enrolled in schools, and around 70% of girls have never attended school.
The rural areas suffer greatly due to a lack of accessibility to quality schools which is why PEP focuses on female and minority enrollment to serve this neglected population by building schools in their own villages with baselines for girls' enrollments.
